Best Touchscreen Laptop 2023: All the best touchscreen models we’ve reviewed

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (2023) is a powerful laptop that is hiding a wide gamut of abilities under its mature and understated lid. Our reviewer really liked the keyboard on this laptop; it felt deep and substantial, even comparable to the iconic Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon. The touchpad felt velvety and satisfying to use, with an Asus DialPad also included. This allows users to navigate the device with ease, with options to access the shortcut tools as well as sound and brightness.

Our model came with a 13th-gen Intel Core i9-13900H CPU and an Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU, alongside 32GB RAM and a 2TB SSD. Our reviewer found that it could handle video editing, demanding pro-grade apps like 3D modelling and even gaming. This gives it a lot of versatility and a fantastic Windows alternative to a MacBook.

All this power is complemented by the beautiful, pixel-rich OLED display. It sits at 14 inches with a 2880×2800 resolution, with our screen tests proving that the brightness can reach a peak of 593 nits while in HDR mode. Maximum colour depth is, as expected with an OLED panel, extreme, with the option to switch between native, sRGB, DCI P3 and Adobe RGB modes. Since this display is touchscreen you can also scroll through documents or zoom into images with ease. As an added bonus, a pressure-sensitive stylus is included in the box, ideal for creatives who want to start drawing as soon as possible.

Overall, the Zenbook Pro 14 OLED excels in almost every area and has a wide array of use cases thanks to its impressive specs. If you’re not willing to splash out for the MacBook Pro (2023) then this is a fantastic substitute, with more than enough power for both work and play, although it doesn’t have a touchscreen.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i (2022) ticks almost every box as a laptop, boasting great performance, a stunning OLED display and all-day battery life.

Starting with the design, the combination of glass and aluminium makes this one of the best-looking slim laptops around. There are no sharp edges, with gently curved, chrome-effect edges that make it look supremely premium. Our reviewer felt that the keyboard was comfortable, striking a great balance between light, responsive movement and solid feedback. 

The 14-inch display features OLED technology, sporting a 2800×1800 resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. In our tests, the panel produced 100%, 99.2% and 96.8% of the sRGB, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB gamuts with huge volume, meaning that it can handle creative workloads and media playback in every space.  

Our model came with an Alder Lake Intel Core i7-1280P processor, alongside 16GB dual-channel DDR5 memory and 1TB SSD. It comes with two performance options: Adaptive and Extreme. Our reviewer found that Adaptive Performance was perfect for everyday office tasks and web browsing with Extreme Performance best suited for photo-editing and modest content creation tasks. For everyday workloads, our reviewer felt that this worked just as well as any Apple MacBooks out there, although you will want something more powerful for multi-threaded and intensive creative jobs. 

The battery was also very impressive. With Adaptive Performance mode engaged it lasted for a whopping 10 hours and 25 minutes, with Battery Saver mode extending that by an hour. This makes it an ideal machine for those who like to work on the go, aided by its very reasonable 1.38kg weight. 

This is a fantastic pick for anyone who’s looking for an impressive screen and capable internals. The high levels of colour accuracy make it suitable for photo editing, and the OLED panel will provide more than enough depth and vibrancy for your next movie binge.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 keeps the same core elements as the original with the benefit of improved battery life and boosted power. This laptop is adorably tiny, sporting a 12.4-inch touchscreen. This meant that our reviewer could scroll through documents and zoom into pictures with ease, although it’s worth noting that it doesn’t have support for a stylus. The resolution is a bit of a drawback, at just 1536×1024, meaning that watching content in Full HD won’t be possible. However, it’s still perfectly fine provided you don’t require crystal-clear imagery. 

It comes with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor, alongside 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It can be configured with 4GB RAM, but our reviewer would recommend opting for the higher option to keep things running smoothly. It provided a consistent performance with multiple apps and browser tabs open simultaneously and is comfortably powerful enough for basic productivity tasks. Due to the Intel Iris Xe integrated GPU, it’s not capable of gaming or intense graphical workloads. 

In our battery benchmark, the Surface Laptop Go 2 managed to last 9 hours and 11 minutes. This will see you through a day of work and is ideal for anyone who likes to work on the go, further benefited by its compact size and 1.12kg weight, which is barely noticeable in a backpack or laptop bag. 

One of the biggest advantages of this laptop is its pricing. The base model comes in at just $599.99/£529, undercutting the vast majority of Windows laptops on the market. If you’re looking for a work laptop and having a great resolution isn’t high up on your priority list, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is a very easy recommendation.

Anyone who’s looking for a reliable touchscreen laptop that runs on ChromeOS will want to take a look at the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 (2022). One of the biggest advantages of using a Chromebook is that they run on a very simple UI and come with access to the Google Play Store, giving you access to the majority of Android apps out there. 

The Chromebook Spin 514 is not the most powerful laptop in the world, but it does offer a decent grunt for a Chromebook. Our model came with an Intel Core i3-1110G4 processor and it proved nippy enough for the lighter demands of ChromeOS. The 8GB of RAM it comes with allowed our reviewer to open up a shed-load of Chrome tabs without anything faltering. While it won’t be able to sustain the same amount of apps and tabs as most Windows devices, it will be able to serve you through day-to-day productivity tasks. 

Our battery benchmarks showed that the Chromebook Spin 514 could last 10 hours and 11 minutes, which will be able to last you through the workday if you happen to forget your charger. The 1.37kg weight is a little heftier than you may expect for a Chromebook, but our reviewer was still able to throw it into a backpack and take it out on the go. 

The screen sits at 14 inches and packs a Full HD (1920×1080) resolution, which proved to be a great choice for day-to-day browsing and watching media content. The touchscreen combined with the 2-in-1 design means that you can use the Chromebook Spin 514 like a makeshift tablet.

Our reviewer claimed that this is one of the best Chromebooks they’ve tested in the last few years. It boasts a very sleek design and the processor is powerful enough for day-to-day productivity tasks, and comes with a very reasonable £497 asking price.

The Asus Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (2023) is one the best convertible laptops on offer at the moment. It comes with a fantastic OLED display that sits at 14 inches with a 2880×1800 resolution. Although there is an optional 4K option for this laptop, our reviewer noted that this may be a bit superfluous, as the OLED technology already makes media content look crisp and vibrant. 

The 2-in-1 design also gives this laptop a lot of versatility. It can be used as a traditional clamshell laptop for productivity tasks, then flipped into a tent configuration. This is aided massively by the touchscreen and bundled stylus, allowing our reviewer to take notes and doodle while also making zooming into images and scrolling through documents feel a lot more streamlined. Our reviewer felt that the dual 360 hinges felt very sturdy, with barely any flex in the lid. 

Unlike some other convertible laptops, the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED makes the most of its available space, featuring a USB-A port and HDMI 2.1 input. There are also two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5mm audio jack, ensuring that almost all productivity needs are met. 

This laptop can be found with either an Intel Core i5-1340P or Core i7-1360P CPU and either 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Our test model came with the i7 processor and 16GB RAM, making it very speedy for an ultra-portable device. It breezed through browsing with 20 or more tabs open, with even video editing running without any hiccups. However, due to the lack of a discrete GPU, it won’t be able to tackle massive multi-layer compositions, making it unsuitable for creative professionals. 

If you are after something that can engage in intensive graphical workloads – whether that be content creation or gaming – then you may want to take a look at the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (2023). But if you’re looking for a nifty ultra-portable device that can tackle productivity tasks and light editing, the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED is the perfect choice.

Packing an impressive 17-inch 4K display, the Dell XPS 17 (2022) is one of the best options if you’re looking for a large touchscreen device. Dell claims this screen has a peak brightness of 500 nits, with our reviewer noting that the colours on the screen looked rich and accurate.

In terms of numbers, this 4K screen covered 100% of the sRGB gamut and a credible 95.2% of DCI-P3. These figures are well above that is what to be expected from an IPS display and make it suitable for creatives that need a colour-accurate screen. 

For a 17-inch device, the XPS 17 does its best to stay relatively thin and light. The weight sits between 2.17kg and 2.57kg – depending on which specs you opt for – making it a little too heavy to regularly take out on the go, even if our reviewer did think that it was suitable for the occasional trip to the office. The keyboard is very spacious and our reviewer found the actual action to be nice, crisp and speedy, with a convincing amount of travel. 

Our XPS 17 model came kitted out with an Intel Core i7-12700H processor and an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU. It was able to outpace other big-screen laptops in our tests – including the Huawei MateBook 16s and Acer Swift Edge – with high-end video and design applications running without any hiccups. The inclusion of the RTX 3060 opened up some gaming opportunities too, although our reviewer noted that propping up the laptop while gaming may be necessary since it could run quite hot with a lot of fan noise. 

Overall, the Dell XPS 17 is a powerhouse of a laptop that comes with a beautiful 17-inch 4K touchscreen. It’s as lightweight as a 17-inch laptop can get, with enough versatility to support both content creation and gaming.

Not all gaming laptops come with touchscreen capabilities, but the Asus ROG Flow X16 has bucked that trend. Our model came with an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS processor as well as a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics card, alongside 32GB DDR5 memory and 1TB SSD storage. Our reviewer was able to play Horizon Zero Dawn at a 2560×1600 resolution at 68fps, and Borderlands 3 at 46fps. This is all to say that the ROG Flow X16 can handle AAA games, with plenty of eSports ability too; as Rainbow Six Siege averaged 230fps. 

The ROG Flow X16 features a 180-degree hinge which adds a lot of versatility. It can be used as a traditional clamshell laptop and flipped around into a large tablet. The touchscreen capabilities allows for touchscreen games to be played, as well as doodling and taking notes. Our reviewer noted that the aluminium and magnesium alloy body exhibits exceptional build quality throughout, with a reasonable – for a gaming laptop – 2.1kg weight. 

Looking at the display, this laptop packs a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 2560×1600 resolution which delivers a crisp, absorbing gaming experience with more vertical space than any rival. The aspect ratio also lends this laptop to productivity tasks, with our review stating that the extra height makes it easier to read web pages and documents. Our benchmarking found a 543-nit peak and a 1086:1 contrast ratio, both of which provided great depth and colour contrast in both gameplay and media content. 

All in all, the Asus ROG Flow X16 sports a sleek, hybrid design and comes kitted with a powerful Nvidia GPU which gives it the power to function well in a variety of gaming and media situations. While the £2799/$2699 asking price isn’t on the low end, this is a very easy recommendation for an all-rounder touchscreen gaming device.
